I was very fortunate to recieve a photo drone for my birthday from my partner Bec, in the lead up to our family camping holiday. We would spend one month driving from Melbourne to the South West of WA and back. Along the way, I had plenty of opportunities to send the drone into the air and practice my flying, photography and videography from above.
Our first stop was Mason’s bay, where we stayed at a fantastic camp ground right by the beach.
Next we headed to Denmark. On the way, we checked out Misery Beach which is near Albany, which has a spectacular granite outcrop that grows straight out of the sand and turquoise water. We did our best snorkelling of the entire trip here.
Denmark is home to the famous Green`s Pool and Elephant Rocks. Giant boulders shield the beach from the rough Southern Ocean, creating a natural turquoise bathtub.
In the Margaret River region, we stayed at Conto`s campground. The beach surprised us as being one of our favourites, with impressive cliffs, clear water, plenty rock pools for exploring and a long white sandy stretch.
Hamelin Bay is a tiny town with little more than a caravan park and a boat ramp. It is famous for its stingrays, who can be observed foraging in the shallows. We saw plenty of stingrays and even a Bronze Whaler shark!
The Bunda Cliffs which run along the bottom of the Nullabor Plain were incredible. It was daunting to fly the drone over the edge but the footage was worth it.
